Totally Techniques Blog Hop - Bokeh

I think you're going to LOVE this blog hop!!! Bokeh is our technique for June. And Stampin' Up! has a stamp set you can use to re-create this gorgeous technique...but sadly I do not have it yet.

BOKEH

bōˈkā

PHOTOGRAPHY

noun: bokeh

1. the visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image, especially as rendered by a particular lens.

   "a quick, visual survey of the foreground and background bokeh of a variety of lenses"

I made my Bokeh background the old fashioned way - with a watercolor wash, a template and white craft ink. You'll find a video tutorial here:

This was the christening of my DANDELION WISHES and my how I love this stamp set!!! It was perfect for a busy background right? I chose Lovely Lipstick, Grapefruit Grove and Pineapple Punch reinkers for this background watercolor wash.

Dimensions:

• Lovely Lipstick 8-1/2 x 5-1/2
• Whisper White 4 x 5-1/4
• Watercolor Paper 3-3/4 x 5

 

And then I used it again for this card -  wedding card. Love the softness of this color combo. My card base is Balmy Blue but the Bokeh background was made with Coastal Cabana and Balmy Blue reinkers.

Dimensions:

• Balmy Blue 11 x 4-1/4 scored at 5-1/2 & 3 x 4-1/4
• Whisper White 4 x 5-1/4
• Watercolor Paper 2-3/4 x 4

And then I have this card - OH MY - I love how bright these colors are together! I used the ENJOY LIFE stamp set in combination with the DANDELION WISHES set along with Tranquil Tide and Lemon Lime Twist reinkers for the background.

Dimensions:

• Lemon Lime Twist 11 x 4-1/4 scored at 5-1/2
• Basic Black 2-3/4 x 5-1/4
• Watercolor Paper 2-1/2 x 5

A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop - Broadway Star

Welcome to A PAPER PUMPKIN THING BLOG HOP for June. There are 15 of us in this hop creating alternate projects!!! WHOO HOO! I think you love what we've created with the June Paper Pumpkin Kit - BROADWAY STAR - it coordinates with our Broadway Bound Suite in the Annual Catalog! 

I had so much fun with the elements in this kit - my cards were super easy and quick to make - I love it when that happens!

The card below uses the Lemon Lime Twist banner that I trimmed down to 2-1/4" wide. The self-adhesive sequins were the perfect touch to add that little bit of bling - don't you think?

I chose to cut one of the Lemon Lime Twist card bases into three panels each measuring 1-5/8" x 4" - I added a Lovely Lipstick card base measuring 11" x 4-1/4"

And for my 3-D item I chose one of the Gold Striped Treat Bags with a Gold Library Clip to tie the Baker's Twine around and pinch in a little length of Gold Mini Sequins. The Basic Black banner is 3" x 5" with a 1" x 3" strip of Lovely Lipstick that I added the candles to. Again the self-adhesive gold sequins was the perfect touch to add to my banner.

Project Sheet Monday

Here's another very pretty and easy card created by Sarah Simon. I love the new Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape purples! What do you think?

And that layer of Whisper White on the card base adds just enough pop - don't you think?

 

Cutting & Scoring: 

• Gorgeous Grape 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” scored at 4-1/4”, 2-3/4” x 4”, 7/8” x 3-1/4”
• Whisper White 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”, 2-5/8” x 3-7/8”, 3/4" x 3” , 4” x 5-1/4” (inside)
• Highland Heather 3-3/4” x 5”

 

Instructions:

• Using the Tufted embossing folder, emboss the Highland Heather layer and adhere to the lager outside Whisper White layer using Multipurpose Liquid Glue and adhere this to the Gorgeous Grape card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
• Stamp the images on the 2-5/8” x 3-7/8” layer of Whisper White.  The longer stems are stamped in Lemon Lime Twist ink, the shorter accent stems are stamped in Granny Apple Green, the solid flowers are stamped in Highland Heather and the flower accents are stamped in Gorgeous Grape. 
• Adhere the stamped layer to the Gorgeous Grape layer and adhere to the front of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
• Stamp the greeting in Gorgeous Grape ink on the strip of Whisper White cardstock and cut the banner end.
• Adhere the banner to the Gorgeous Grape strip of cardstock and cut the banner end and adhere this with some Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the top of the banner to the floral image.
• Add a medium sized Granny Apple Green Glitter dot to the banner.
• Stamp one of the floral images like the front on the inside layer in the left corner and a greeting in Gorgeous Grape ink.
• Adhere to the inside of the card using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
• Enjoy!

Well isn't this little guy adorable??? Just in time for the 4th of July. You'll find all the details, dimensions and instruction PLUS a downloadable Project Sheet below.

 

 

Cutting & Scoring: 

• Blueberry Bushel – 8 ½” x 5 ½”, score and fold at 4 ¼”
• Whisper White – 5 ¼” x 4” for inside matte
• Whisper White – 5 ¼” x 4” for outside matte
• DSP Blueberry with Dots – 2” x 5 1/8”
• DSP Lovely Lipstick with Stripes – 2” x 5 1/8”
• Silver Glimmer – 3 ¼” x 3 ¼“
• Whisper White – 3 1/16” x 3 1/16” and scrap piece for bow
• Silver Edged Ribbon – 5.5”

Instructions:

• Fold card base in half
• Attach Blueberry Bushel DSP strip to Whisper White matte on top half
• Attach Lovely Lipstick DSP strip to Whisper White matte on bottom half
• Attach Silver Edge Ribbon over the middle of the card attaching ends of ribbon on back side
• Attach Whisper White matte to Blueberry Bushel card base.
• Stamp the first layer of Baby Bear in Sahara Sand, second layer in Crumb Cake and third layer in Soft Suede
• Attach Baby Bear Whisper White piece to Silver Glimmer paper with liquid glue
• Attach Silver Glimmer paper to card front using dimensionals
• Stamp first bow in Lovely Lipstick on Whisper White Scrap and fussy cut bow out
• Attach bow to Baby Bear using dimensionals
• Attach Clear Rhinestone to center of bow
• Stamp a sentiment on the inside Whisper White matte and adhere to the inside of the card with liquid glue

Wait...WHAT? & Joke of the Week

Did you know that we have an ONLINE COLOR COACH???? I KNOW!!!! I love using this amazing tool to determine my color combinations - sometimes when I look at the suggested color combo - I'm like WHAT? But then I make a card with it and BOOM - the colors look fabulous together!

Sitting by the window of her convent, Sister Barbara opened a letter from home one evening.  

 

Inside the letter was a $100 bill her parents had sent.  

 

Sister Barbara smiled at the gesture.

 

As she read the letter by the window, she noticed a shabbily dressed stranger leaning against the lamp post below.  

 

Quickly, she wrote, "Don't despair. - Sister Barbara," on a piece of paper, wrapped the $100 bill in it, got the man's attention and tossed it out the window to him.  

 

The stranger picked it up, and with a puzzled expression and a tip of his hat, went off down the street.  

 

The next day, Sister Barbara was told that a man was at her door, insisting on seeing her. She went down, and found the stranger waiting. Without a word, he handed her a huge wad of $100 bills.  

 

"What's this?" she asked.

 

"That's the $8,000 you have coming Sister," he replied. "Don't Despair paid 80-to-1."

Control Freaks Blog Hop - New Catalog Happiness

 

Welcome to the Control Freaks blog hop - our theme for June is NEW CATALOG HAPPINESS.  I'm super excited to show you what I made.

I love the fact that the SEA OF TEXTURES BUNDLE is super fun with the little octopus that I've affectionately named FRANK and you can also make an elegant card like I did here. Isn't it the best when a stamp set has so much versatility? 

I chose a watercolor wash background. Watercolor paper is the best paper to use for this technique. I wet it down with my Aqua Painter and then pick up some color from the lid of my Pool Party ink pad and distribute it around. Once that's dried I took my Aqua painter and tapped it on my finger to get droplets of water to splatter on the surface to create almost a tie die effect. I almost forgot...I used Crumb Cake ink on the bottom 1/4 of my layer under the greeting and sand dollars.

I thought the DETAILED TRIO PUNCH was a perfect little accent for the corner of my greeting layer. And OMGosh - those sand dollars are the BOMB! I sponged them with Crumb Cake ink - so pretty right?

I used the ANIMAL OUTING stamp set along with the ANIMAL EXPEDITION DSP for this card:

• Soft Suede 4-1/4 x 11 scored at 5-1/2 and on a diagonal from the top right to the bottom left of the front panel
• Animal Expedition DSP 4 x 5-1/4 cut diagonally down the middle
• Pool Party 2-3/4 x 2-3/4 & scrap
• Whisper White 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 & scrap

This card uses the A BIG THANK YOU bundle - love the thinlit that goes with this stamp set! This is the opposite side of the DSP I used above from the same pack.

• Lemon Lime Twist 4-1/4 x 11 scored at 5-1/2 and on a diagonal from the top right to the bottom left of the front panel
• Animal Expedition DSP 4 x 5-1/4 cut diagonally down the middle
• Basic Black scrap
• Berry Burst scrap
• Whisper White 4 x 5-1/4 & scrap

The GARDEN IMPRESSIONS DSP is soooo beautiful! I love how bright and bold it is on this card:
