Autism

THANK YOU SO MUCH for joining me today as we enjoy a blog hop to help raise funds for Autism Research! My daughter Hailey is pursuing a career in education (she's going to be an amazing teacher!) and her part time job as a Line Therapist for the Fox Valley Autism Treatment Program has been so rewarding and extremely challenging! She's been working with two different kids in the area that are severely challenged. When I asked her to provide a little insight - here's what she said:

"Working with children with autism has been a truly amazing experience for me! As a future educator it has opened my eyes not to their disabilities, but to their ABILITIES! From working with children who are non-verbal to children who are  handicapped because of various birth defects, each day spent with them challenges me as a person and is rewarding to know that I make a difference in their social, emotional and physical skills. I am so lucky to be a part of their lives!"

And now...here's a little about the organization that your donation will benefit:

ORGANIZATION FOR AUTISM RESEARCH - MISSION

OAR’S MISSION IS TO APPLY RESEARCH TO THE CHALLENGES OF AUTISM.

We strive to use science to address the social, educational, and treatment concerns of self-advocates, parents, autism professionals, and caregivers. The mission of “applying” research to answer questions of daily concern to those living with autism defines our goals and program objectives and shapes our budget.

In addition to funding research, our mission includes the requirements to:

  • Disseminate new and useful information to as many members of the autism community as possible, and
  • Direct all research and programs initiatives toward enhancing the quality of life for individuals with autism.

If you are wondering what we mean by applied research, we define it as research that directly impacts the day-to-day quality of life of learners with autism. It entails the systematic investigation of variables associated with positive outcomes in such areas as education, communication, self care, social skills, employment, behavior, and adult and community living. In this context, it extends to issues related to family support, the efficacy of service delivery systems, and demographic analyses of the autism community.

In simplest terms, applied autism research is “practical research that examines issues and challenges that children and adults with autism and their families face everyday.”

Our theme for this hop is to use the colors in the Autism emblem. Here's what I came up with:

Wow Kelly I already posted on your YouTube(RobynLovesPedroSilva) and I'm sorry I didn't realize that YOU are the one who organized this hop!! You are the reason it happened!! I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart for doing this. You are such an amazing person!! Thank you for raising money for autism and most of all for raising awareness for autism!!! I have two young boys with autism ( 5 and 3 years old) my oldest is non verbal. They are both in a lot of therapy so I have a lot of respect for your daughter. It's people like her who give me hope for my amazing sons. Thank you so much Kelly! ❤️❤️
